A furniture retailer was losing mattresses to warehouse scuffs and losing hours to mislabeled bags. The fix was not more tape — it was a standardized bag program: one size range from Twin to Cal King, thickness matched to warehouse handling, and the size printed on every bag. This is how that program was specified and what it changed.
Retailers usually imagine compression as the enemy. In practice, a mattress in a warehouse is rarely crushed — it is scraped and dampened: dragged against racking, rubbed by neighboring stock, and exposed to condensation cycles in non-climatized buildings. Quilted covers pick up scuff marks that read as “used” to a customer expecting new, and once moisture marks set into a quilted top, the mattress is a return.
The retailer’s mixed-bag practice made both problems worse. Whatever bag was nearest got used; too-small bags split at the corners during fitting, and unlabeled bags meant every pick required flipping the mattress to check a tag — slow, and occasionally wrong.
Working from the retailer’s product list, we mapped every mattress SKU to a standard bag size and consolidated the program into six sizes. Each size is a distinct, warehouse-recognizable bag — and the size is OEM-printed on the film in large characters, so a picker confirms fit at a glance without flipping or labeling anything.
| Bag size | Fits mattress | Program notes |
|---|---|---|
| Twin | Twin platforms and bunks | All six sizes produced in the same film specification for uniform handling, with the size printed on both faces of the bag |
| Twin XL | Twin XL dorm-standard | |
| Full | Full / double | |
| Queen | Queen — highest-volume size | |
| King | King | |
| Cal King | California King |
Six standard sizes covering the retailer’s full range, each with corner allowance so fitting takes seconds without splitting seams. Custom sizes available for non-standard and oversized models.
Film thickness within the 100–200 mic range, selected for drag resistance against racking and multiple internal handlings — not just a single trip from truck to floor.
Size printed large on both faces during production — replacing hand-applied labels with permanent, tamper-evident identification.
| Factor | Before (mixed bags + labels) | After (sized printed program) |
|---|---|---|
| Bagging time per mattress | Slow — corner splits and re-bagging | Fast single fit, no re-bagging |
| Surface damage in storage | Scuffs and moisture marks on quilted tops | Full-surface protection in handling-grade film |
| Wrong-size picks | Occasional — tag not visible | Rare — size printed on the bag |
| Labeling work | Every bag labeled by hand | Eliminated — printing replaces labels |
The program now runs on standing replenishment orders, with printed sizes delivered against a rolling forecast. For retailers and mattress brands planning a similar program: MOQ is 1,000 kg per specification, lead time is typically 30+ days, and free samples are available so your warehouse team can test fit and handling before committing. Sofa covers, dust sheets and pallet covers for the same warehouse are produced in the same program — one supplier, one spec sheet.
What sizes do mattress bags come in?
Standard production covers Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and Cal King, each with corner allowance for quick fitting. Custom sizes are produced to order for non-standard models.
What thickness is right for warehouse use?
Enough for drag against racking and multiple handlings — we select within the 100–200 mic range based on your handling pattern, balancing protection against cost.
Can the bags be printed with our size marks or logo?
Yes — OEM printing is part of the program: size marks on both faces, your logo, or handling instructions, printed during production rather than applied afterward.
Do printed bags cost much more than plain?
The printing increment is small at program volume, and it is usually offset by the labeling labor it removes — before counting the reduction in wrong-size picks.
What is the MOQ and lead time?
MOQ is 1,000 kg per specification, which typically covers a program of several sizes. Lead time is typically 30+ days; free samples are available for warehouse trials.
Can sofa and furniture covers run in the same program?
Yes — sofa covers, dust sheets and pallet covers are produced in matching specifications, so one supplier and one replenishment schedule can cover the whole warehouse.
